The Mitchells and their story

At the start of the 20th century, in a small little village known as Simville, a young man opened a carpentry, selling furniture he handmade from offcuts from the local logging company. After a brief courtship with the daughter of the owner of the logging company, the young carpenter and his young bride started a family. He taught his trade to his sons, hoping they would one day follow in his footsteps. Too young to join the Great War in 1939, Anthony Mitchell stood by his mother's side as they said goodbye to his father and two older brothers. Only his father returned at the end of the war. Determined to give his only son a future, Anthony Mitchell's father continued the family business, nurturing its customers and building a strong reputation. One that, as the small village of Simville became the fledging metropolis SimCity, became a business of respect and admiration of many. Mitchell's Furniture was born. Years later, after the death of his father, Anthony Mitchell took over Mitchell's Furniture. No longer a lowly family of carpenters, the Mitchells were a well-respected and wealthy family amongst SimCity's elite.

As his father before him, Anthony Mitchell had dreams and hopes that his four sons would one day join him in the family business. His eldest, Anthony (Tony) Jnr. was everything a father could hope for in a son; hard working, loyal and proud to carry on the family traditions. His two younger sons, though they showed some interest in the business, were only doing so to please him. Once they were old enough to start lives of their own, they left the home and family behind. Anthony still had hopes for the youngest of his four sons. Sadly, the youngest, Dylan, took after his mother and showed very little interest in the family business. Anthony tried to instil in his sons the importance of hard work and taking pride in what they have achieved, but Dylan turned out to be an even greater disappointment. All hopes and dreams for the family now lay with Tony Mitchell.

In the latter part of 1955, a tragic accident claimed the life of a young boy's mother. The young mother visited Mitchell's in the hopes of buying her son a gift for his birthday. The young boy slipped at the top of the stairs leading to the upstairs displays. His mother tried to stop him from falling, loosing her own footing. Anthony Mitchell (Snr.) was quick enough to grab the boy before he too tumbled down the stairs, but wasn't able to save the mother. Both watched in horror as the boy's mother fell to her death at the bottom of the stairs.

For the next two decades, their lives continued without incident. Anthony Mitchell (Snr.) and his wife, Elizabeth, watched with pride as their sons went to school, made friends, started their own lives.

Tony and Dylan formed a strong bond of friendship with two others: Glenda Stevens, a curious girl and overly zealous; and Jennifer Morrissey, a bright girl from a family of well-known actors and actresses. As they entered their teenage years, it became clear that Tony and Jennifer where becoming more than just friends - a prospect encouraged by both parents. It was during this time that a third girl joined their group: Michelle Wilson, a shy girl with a troubled past known only to her and her family.  As the years went by and the relationship between Tony and Jennifer became serious, it was everyone's expectation that they would one day marry. Not longer after they all finished school, Tony and Jennifer announced their engagement, much to the delight of Tony's father and mother. Not longer after Tony and Jennifer were married, she fell pregnant, bringing Jennifer's dream of studying drama to an end. On a warm autumn day in April, 1967, Jennifer gave birth to Jason and Stephen Mitchell.

The group's bond of friendship continued into their adult lives. Glenda joined Mitchell's Furniture. Tony often took to the running of the business whenever his parents went on holiday. During this time, Michelle broke away from the group. When she returned a few years later, she too joined Mitchell's Furniture. Dylan, on the other hand, was never able to hold down work for an extended period of time. This caused friction between himself, Tony and their father, who constantly scrutinised and criticised his decisions.

One rainy day in March, 1981, tragedy once again struck the family. On their way home from their annual holiday, Anthony Mitchell (Snr.) and his wife, Elizabeth, were in a horrific accident. Spending days at her bedside, Antony (Snr.) and his family hoped and prayed for their beloved wife and mother's recovery, but none came. One a cold and rainy day in late March, Elizabeth passed away from her injuries. Her death had a strong impact on Tony, who loved his mother dearly - a tragedy he never fully recovered from.

Jason and Stephen grew up with all the comfort the family's wealth and social status could provide. Stephen followed in his father and grandfather's footsteps and had a keen interest in the family business. Despite his grandfather's initial rejection, Stephen decided to spread his wings and work as a waiter at a local restaurant before joining the family line at Michell's Furniture. Whilst working at the restaurant, Stephen met Louise Baxter. Both were interested in getting to know each other and a relationship began. Jason, on the other hand, took after his mother and had more interests in the arts. He whiled away the hours either with his nose in a book, or behind a typewriter or computer, dreaming of one day seeing his name on the cover of his own book.

Never having given up on her dreams of studying drama, Jennifer decided to fulfill this dream and returned to her studies. Despite Tony's objections, Jennifer insisted on living the life of a student, living in a dorm and only spending holidays with her family and sons.
